On a PC

Using Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer

1. Click the PDF to open it in your browser.
2. Press the key combination of “control” + “f.” This will open a search box in the top right corner of your window.
3. Type the name or words you would like to find in the PDF. Generally, type the full name, first name first (ex: Jane Susan Doe). To find a name in an index, type last name first (ex: Doe, Jane Susan).
4. Press enter/return to initiate the search.
5. Use either the “previous” and “next” buttons (Internet Explorer/Firefox) or the arrow keys (Chrome) to find the name or words on other pages.

Using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari

The number to the left of each name refers to the generation within the genealogy. For example, “Salomon Nathan is Generation 1, Nathan Salomon is Generation 2, Lazarus Schaffner is Generation 3. A + to the left of a name indicates a spouse, b shows for birth date, m shows a marriage date, d shows a death date.

Three types of numbers are used in this report: one to uniquely identify the individual, one to indicate the generation into which that person falls, and one to denote his or her birth order within the nuclear family. The identification numbering system is called By Generation. The starting person (Salomon Nathan) is 1, his first child (Nathan Salomon) is 2. All their children are listed in Generation 3 and so on. Each person is assigned an identification number in sequential order by generation.
